Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) launched its new book “Media Reporting of Elections in Asia: Issues, Challenges and Lessons” on World Press Freedom Day, 3 May, 2021. The book gathers experiences of journalists in electoral coverage in countries such as Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka.
HKEOP is honoured to have contributed to a chapter on Hong Kong discussing the current media environment and electoral arena. Expert interviews and a panel survey (in collaboration with HKPORI) were conducted for the purpose of understanding how different stakeholders in the society perceive the state of future elections and press freedom in the post-National Security Law era. The book chapter – ‘Red Lines’ and ‘No-Go Areas’: Learning to cope with fear in the shadow of the National Security Law – is available for download.
If you are interested in learning about the experiences and challenges in other Asian countries, the full book is also accessible at ANFREL.
